Automated Lead Follow-Up for Tint Shops: A Simple 5-Touch Sequence

Short answer

Follow up on every tint quote with five short texts over about 30 days: a same-day check-in, a day 2 answer to a common question, a day 5 offer of open dates, a day 10 photo of a similar car, and a day 30 final check. Stop as soon as the customer books or says no, and automate the sequence so it runs while you're installing.

Most tint quotes that don’t turn into jobs never get a “no.” The customer gets your price, says they’ll think about it, and then life happens. A week later they book with whichever shop happened to text them back.

A follow-up sequence fixes that. It’s a set schedule of short messages that goes out after every quote until the customer books or tells you they’ve gone another way. Set it up once in your tint shop CRM and it runs while you’re in the bay. Here’s a five-touch sequence built for window tint, with messages you can copy.

Why tint quotes go cold

Window tint is often an impulse purchase that turns into a research project. A customer sees a car they like, calls a few shops, and then starts reading about ceramic versus carbon film, what’s legal in their state, and whether they really need the windshield done.

During that window, they’re not ignoring you. They’re deciding. The shop that stays helpful during those few days is the one they book. The shop that sent one quote and went quiet is the one they forget.

If leads are slipping through before you even get to the quote, start with our guide on how to stop missing leads at a tint shop.

The 5-touch follow-up sequence

Send these by text unless the customer asked you to email. Replace the details in brackets, and keep them short. Every message should give the customer an easy reason to reply.

Touch 1: Same day, within an hour of the quote

Confirm they got it and invite questions.

Hi [name], it’s [your name] at [shop]. Just sent your quote for the [year make model]. Happy to explain the film options or answer anything. When were you hoping to get it done?

Asking about timing tells you how hot the lead is and gives them an easy question to answer.

Touch 2: Day 2, answer a common question

Pick the question you hear most and answer it before they ask.

Quick note on the film options in your quote: ceramic blocks more heat than carbon at the same shade, so you get a cooler car without going darker. Most of our customers with long commutes pick ceramic. Want me to hold a spot this week?

If customers often ask about darkness, point them to your state’s limits instead. Our window tint laws by state chart shows what’s legal on every window, including which film percentages read too dark once installed.

Touch 3: Day 5, share open dates

Give them specific times, not a vague “we have availability.”

Hi [name], I’ve got openings Thursday at 9 and Saturday at 10 if you want to get the [model] in. Takes about [time] and you can wait or drop it off.

Specific dates make the decision concrete. “Thursday at 9” is easier to say yes to than “let me know when works.”

Touch 4: Day 10, show similar work

Send a photo of a recent install on the same or a similar vehicle.

Did this [model] last week with the same film I quoted you. Thought you’d want to see how it looks. Still happy to get yours on the schedule.

Real photos from your own bay do more than any review. If you don’t have the same model, use the closest one you have.

Touch 5: Day 30, final check

Close the loop politely and give them a way out.

Hi [name], just checking whether you’re still thinking about tint for the [model] or went another way. Either answer helps, and the quote is good if you want it.

That “either answer helps” line gets more replies than you’d expect. Even a “went somewhere else” tells you something useful.

Rules that keep the sequence working

Stop the moment they book. Nothing makes a shop look disorganized faster than a “still thinking about it?” text after the customer already paid a deposit. Automation handles this if booking the job ends the sequence.

Stop when they say no. Mark the lead as lost and note the reason, such as price, timing, went with another shop or decided not to tint. After a couple of months those reasons show you where you’re losing jobs.

Respond fast when they reply. The sequence only opens the door. If a customer answers touch 3 with “Saturday works,” confirm within minutes, not hours.

Keep messages short. Two or three sentences each. A wall of text reads like a sales script.

Don’t send anything after hours. Schedule messages during your business hours so they arrive when you can actually respond.

How to automate it

You can run this sequence by hand with a spreadsheet and phone reminders, and a lot of shops start that way. The problem is that follow-ups land on your busiest days, and those are the days they get skipped.

Automation means the sequence starts when you send the quote and stops when the customer books, with no one remembering anything. A CRM built for tint shops ties the follow-ups to your pipeline, so a lead moves from Quoted to Booked and the messages stop on their own.

TintFlow X sends automated follow-ups and SMS reminders, tracks every quote in a pipeline, and lets customers approve a quote and pay a deposit from their phone, all for $59 a month. See how it works on the window tint shop software page.

Once a lead says yes, the next step is getting them on the calendar without the back-and-forth. Read our guide on window tint scheduling.
